Live. Laugh. Love! Live. Laugh. Love! It may not be a Biblical quote, but I could do with more of each of those in my life – we all could. The natural world is stunning in its immensity and complexity, and yet God is concerned about our individual lives. Many in our society see God as a hard taskmaster who sets high moral standards and punishes those who don't live up to them. But when the Psalmist speaks of the law, the statutes, the precepts and the commands of the Lord, they are all synonyms for the same thing – the way the world is ordered, and he doesn't see this negatively. He claims God's laws are perfect, trustworthy, right and illuminating! The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. Psalm 19: 7-8 [NIV] Following God's law brings us joy, wisdom, insight and refreshment. God brings freedom rather than constraint. "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 [NIV] Thank you God for the gift of life! Mairi Mowbray | |
