Slowing down to pray It's Friday, it's nearly the weekend and we've spent the week looking at different ways to pray, however it won't do us much good unless we take the time out to slow down and pray. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35 [NIV] We live in a world where time is money, where we feel the pressure to stay fit, to take part in teams or groups, perhaps your children have extra-curricular activities every night of the week and constantly want the newest gadget - to be busy is to be admired. How do we as Christians learn to slow down in this world? You could try journalling as a way to take time out, to jot down prayers and answered prayers, to keep a note of things you're thankful for and to look over the ways God has walked with you. We then need to take time out to listen to God, to hear his still small voice amidst all the noise. Over the weekend try to take ten minutes out to be still before God, maybe use some of the patterns for prayer we looked at earlier in the week and remember God loves to hear from us, 'you're too busy not to say yes!' Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 [NIV] Emma Higgins | |
