Pathways? "O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say before I even say it. You both precede and follow me and place your hand of blessing on my head. This is too glorious, too wonderful to believe! I can never be lost to your Spirit" Psalm 139:1-7 [TLB] There is perhaps no more beautiful or personal passage than that of Psalm 139, and I am ever in awe as to the ways in which He directs our pathways when we are open to having Him do so. Yesterday I shared how, after working in a very demanding role, I handed in my notice to pursue a creative career 2 days a week, and was looking for a 3-day admin job. It unfolded that the Lord had, of course, already gone before me. There were no part time jobs at my current school, yet unbeknown to me they were planning to advertise for a PA to the Leadership team (as one of the Deputy Head's is retiring) the role is 3 days a week, so guess who got the job! God sure has a great sense of humour, such awesome provision! Exodus 13:17-18 tells us that God led the Israelites the longer, harder way on their journey to the Promised Land because He knew they were not yet ready to go in. There had to be time for their training, and they had to go through some very trying situations. They wasted a lot of time wondering about God's timing, but God never failed to take care of them and show them what He wanted them to do. The same is true in our lives. God's training period simply requires us to do what He tells us to do when He tells us to do it...without questioning or trying to figure everything out, for a rebel like me that's tough, but God is always faithful in spite of us. Prayer: Father in heaven, may we be ever open to taking the pathways you put before us. To your name be the praise and the glory. Amen. Dawn Milward | |
