Magic Moments We are continuing to grow in many ways as we go forward through our lives. We may have a partner, husband or wife, and perhaps a child or two, and for some that's just the start! We are getting used to our position in the world, liking or just coping with the job we have taken on. We have somewhere to live, but are desperately trying to save for a place of our own. It's hard with prices going up and wages struggling to keep up. Will we ever manage to buy somewhere? Maybe parents can help, or promotion at work means a pay rise, perhaps a win on the lottery, an inheritance from a distant relative you hardly knew? Probably none of these and we continue what seems an unequal struggle. At least we have each other and the love and care of family and friends. Now, for some, we watch the children growing up. We try to guide them as our parents guided us, while getting to grips with the new ways of schooling. New rules to contend with, new methods of learning, new ways to interact with others. It's more complicated now than it ever was. Mobile phones, tablets, computers, skype! Some of us had enough trouble getting used to telephones and televisions, but I guess it's just what you grow up with. And your children seem to know more about these things than you do! Still you are coping like we said and overall things aren't too bad really. It just seems a bit hard at times and other people don't always seem to understand. Father works long hours, mother's got a part time job, we can just about afford a week's holiday but not much else. Are we forgetting those special moments when the children have gone to bed and we can snuggle up on the sofa with our special someone to watch a favourite programme or film? Or that kiss and cuddle before we fall asleep beside that someone. How about that stroll across the countryside in the summer sunshine, that smile from someone you gave a helping hand to, the joy in your child's eyes when the exam results came through? Magic moments. You see, He never forgets to show his love, often when you are feeling down. He knows it isn't easy. He sets a high standard which we find hard to keep up to, even though we do try. So, perhaps when you least expect it, He shows you something beautiful, something to make you smile. Thank you Lord, you just make the difference in this old world. God is like that. Jim Finch | |
