[Thursday's Devotional] - God is with you always

God is with you always

As time moves on we learn more about the ways of the world and develop ourselves to the best of our ability. Those with children watch them grow up, leave school, move on to college or university, or find a job they can do which gives them a start in their working life. Perhaps they will still live at home, maybe they will want to find somewhere for themselves, who knows. Some of us will have made it on to the housing ladder and are now lumbered with a mortgage, but for some it may be too late. We all still do the best we can for ourselves and our families, but for some it's a constant battle to keep ahead of the game, as it were. So how are we feeling as we enter the 40's and head toward 50? Confident? Happy? Tired of trying? Fed up with things? Just don't give up there's still good things to come.

The children may get married and start their own family, and you could be the grandparents that have the pleasure of the small children on their visits, while being able to give them back when you have had enough. Couldn't do that with your own, so that's a bonus isn't it? Of course some will have got on well and progressed in their work. Maybe now responsible for others and earning a decent salary. That feels good doesn't it? I hope you are now feeling good about yourself whatever the situation. Some will be disappointed if you are doing better than them, but don't feel bad about them. They have been striving all through life too. It just hasn't worked out as well for them and we hope that they don't hold a grudge. If we are still finding things hard don't give up, and keep smiling – it makes others wonder what you've been up to!  We all suffer ups and downs as we travel through our lifetime. And be sure that there are still good times to come all the way through thanks to our Lord.

So don't forget to thank God for those good times, and don't be afraid to ask for His help when things go wrong. He may not always help in the way you would like but is always aware and you may just feel His arm around your shoulder as it were. There have been a few times when things have gone wrong for me, sometimes my own fault, sometimes not. I didn't always think to ask for God's help, but occasionally things turned round for the better unexpectedly and for no apparent reason. Funny really how you can find so much to say thank you for, so look back and see all the wonderful things that have happened to you through the years. And there's sure to be more to come.

Never forget, God is with you always.
