The Communion of Saints I believe in the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, Most people have a longing that seeks fulfilment, a sense of something more to life that what they have. He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3: 11 [AMP] CS Lewis again sums it up well: Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. A baby feels hunger: well, there is such a thing as food. A duckling wants to swim: well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. (Mere Christianity) God has set eternity in our heart. Atheists have no experience of God, so they say there is no God. But lack of experience is not a valid argument for non-existence; lack of experience is not evidence. I have never experienced (first-hand) the pain of child birth, but as many women will attest, that does not invalidate its existence. The church says, millions of Christians say, we have experienced God in our lives. We believe. I am not an Atheist because the Church testifies to Gods truth. Thank God for the Church, the body of believers. Guy Mowbray | |
