'Tis Manna to the Hungry Soul This world has no spiritual food to offer that will sustain us on our journey of faith, but thankfully God does: "The bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world" John 6:33 [NIV] … I'm guessing the answer is Jesus! I have emerged from a season of hiding from God, I can still be a willful Eve. There were times during that season when the name of Jesus did not sound sweet to me and I had to deal with the cause of that. This year at 'New Wine' it was my desire to be found by the Lord, of course it was only me who had moved! Hoping for some dramatic manifestation, having experienced these before, it was not to be. Instead I was reminded that God's voice is often found in the whisper. Elijah had an awesome encounter with God, and it happened at the lowest moment in his life. The full story can be read, in 1 Kings:19, it begins with the prophet hiding in a cave. "What are you doing here, Elijah?" the Lord asked. 1 Kings 19: 9 [NIV] Exhausted and deeply sad, Elijah explained why he was ready to call it quits. So what did the Lord ask him to do? "Go out and stand before me on the mountain," the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain; it was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, "Why are you here, Elijah?" 1 Kings 19: 11-13 [TLB] To hear someone's whisper, you need to be near them. Be assured that God is found in the whisper of a humble heart. 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind' could be our prayer today. If you have time, watch the video below. Dawn Milward | |
