Drops of Rain I started this week with a "river" caused by rain and I would like to end it with the droplets themselves. I quite like rain. OK, sometimes it is wetter than is desirable, but I find rain fascinating. I love to watch the droplets racing down the window, I'm intrigued by how the surface tension of water holds their shape in a droplet form. I'm awed by the glorious beauty of the rainbow as light splits into the spectrum of colour when viewed through the rain. Each individual droplet waters the earth and enables life and growth. We simply cannot survive without it. But it can also devastate and destroy as flash floods wash away crops and homes, livelihoods, possessions and communities. After the great flood, God promised that He would never again wipe out the earth with a flood. We have His promise in the Bible: and, we simply have to take Him at His word. This is what it is to have faith. God called Noah at a time of drought, in a place where there were no trees and asked him to build a boat because it was going to rain! God asked him to complete a task for a reason that appeared ridiculous. Noah trusted God and was obedient despite the then situation. Now each droplet of rain is a droplet of promise; the promise of new life, the promise of blessing. In times of flood it's hard to believe that behind the clouds the sun is shining even if you cannot see it. It might be that God is calling you to trust Him for what you cannot yet see? Next time it rains go for a walk, leave your umbrella behind and let the Holy Spirit rain down on you. Jump in the puddles, play in the river and get wet! It's good for your soul. Sally Williams | |
