Family Matters The family is under threat. Never, in the UK, have more children grown up without two parents who live at home and are married to each other. The nuclear family with 2.4 children is not the 'average' family today. And yet families still matter very much to God. There are many factors which put a heavy burden on family relationships including: - Caring for elderly parents – is the burden equally shared?
- Broken marriages – step-children and step-parents, single mothers
- Fathers working away from home – stress and separation
- Both parents working – who looks after the children and housework?
Your job (if you are fortunate enough to have one) may be a significant and important part of your life, but: - Someone will one day take your place
- Your children will grow up fast, and you can't turn back the clock
- Your parents will not live for ever, so don't wait till tomorrow to talk to them
'As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.' Psalm 103: 13 [NIV] Let us be compassionate in our family relationships. Let us not be proud, jealous or short sighted. Our family matters to God, let's make sure we matter to each other. Dave MacLellan (originally published in 2003) | |
