[Wednesday's Devotional] - Hump Day

Well, we’ve reached half way and here we are at ‘Hump day’ as it seems to be known these days.  Apparently it’s because once you’re over the hump it’s all downhill to the weekend!  It seems a bit sad that some of us seem to feel that the week just gets in the way of the weekend.  At this point, hopefully, the week is rolling along quite nicely and we can all see where things are going.

However, sometimes everything we do doesn’t quite work out, or is not to our superiors’ liking.  We try to understand what’s wrong and do our best to put things right, but somehow it can really rankle with us. If we don’t deal with it fairly quickly it can upset us to the point where it takes over our attitude and simply makes everything that bit more difficult.

That’s the time to remember that God has told us to bring our troubles to him and he will help us deal with them.  So keep calm, take five if possible, and ask for His assistance.  Now take a fresh look at the situation and consider how you can make things how they need to be.  It may take a little while to sort it out, but you know you can do it, and isn’t it amazing when you see what can be done and realise how you can add to what is needed in a positive way.  Maybe you’ve done it all by yourself, or maybe a colleague has offered a thought which has triggered something off in your own mind.  It doesn’t matter, from somewhere the solution is appearing and you can finish the day in a happier frame of mind.

I know it’s happened to me a few times in the past, and I’ve not always been the best at dealing with it.  I’ve thought along the lines of ‘He’s just being picky, it’s what he asked for, I shouldn’t need to do it again.” I’ve let it get me down and sometimes been really ratty for a time.  Fortunately something has happened, or someone has said something, that throws a new light on the problem and from out of nowhere I’ve managed to make some sense of it. Lucky me. I hope you are too.

It could be a smooth ride to the weekend from here, couldn’t it?

Lord, thank you for that spark you provide from out of nowhere just when we need it. That you listen when we speak to you, take note, and somehow help to solve our problems in your own special way. Amen.
