So! We’ve survived Monday, perhaps better than we thought, and now we are up and running for the week. At least, we hope we are. For many it may be that now the week is under way things will happily trundle along without too much hassle. However some will have decent journeys to make just to get to work, while others’ work will involve a lot of travelling around the country.
Well, the old rhyme does tell us that “Tuesday’s child has far to go.”
I wonder if Paul was born on a Tuesday. He certainly had a lot of long journeys to make and he had no idea exactly how far he would be travelling when he started out. We have no idea what day of the week it was that he met Jesus on the road to Damascus, but that was to be the day he was reborn. I’ve never really thought about how far he actually travelled during his years as Jesus’ disciple. Must have been a great many miles and no public transport! Yes, he did go by ship once or twice, but that wasn’t as comfortable as it would be these days. And he got shipwrecked once too!
Perhaps as we travel around, to work and back, as part of our job, or for our own pleasure, we could try to emulate Paul in some way. The Lord is always with us and will present us with the opportunity to show His love to the people we meet along the way. I know it’s not easy to talk about God these days because there seems to be a lot of anti-Christian angst around. Fortunately we have the opportunity to show God’s love in the way we behave towards others, and in our own attitude to everyday things and other people. So if the opportunity comes along be a modern Paul in your own way. And in what and how you write to others? Now that’s set me a challenge too!
Lord, be with us as we travel around, and show us the way to bring you to those we meet in word and deed. Keep us safe as we journey and bring us to where you want us to be. Amen.
