[Tuesday's Devotional] - All of my hidden shame

Today’s worship read as poetry is one of my favourite modern worship songs.  I really love the power of “Jesus Culture”. I can put their songs on YouTube all day and feel uplifted and engaged in the Holy Spirit.

“See his love” is a beautiful piece of work that expressly describes how I see my own Christianity.

In the beginning of the song I’m forced to look at Jesus on the cross.  It’s the first line, it’s not going to pull any punches. “Look, there he is, on that cross. A perfect, blameless, innocent man, willingly going to his painful death----For me”

In the second verse the lines reveal that it is my undeserved mercy, all of my shame and darkest sins are being washed away by his death. Because he beat death, the gates to Heaven are swung open wide for me.

Yes its simple, yes it is short, but it gets to the point very quickly and I gain so much from it:

See His love nailed onto a cross
Perfect and blameless life given as sacrifice
See Him there all in the name of love
Broken yet glorious, all for the sake of us

This is Jesus in His glory
King of Heaven dying for me
It is finished, He has done it
Death is beaten, Heaven beckons me

Greater love no one could ever show
Mercy so undeserved, freedom I should not know
All my sin, all of my hidden shame
Died with Him on the cross, eternity won for us

This is Jesus in His glory
King of Heaven dying for me
It is finished, He has done it
Death is beaten, Heaven beckons me

Such love, such love
Such love is this for me
