[Monday's Devotional] - Start the week

Well, here we are. The start of a new week. Hope you all had a good weekend with family and friends, perhaps a day out to somewhere pleasant. Great. Church on Sunday, to recharge the heart and soul with like-minded people. Would be nice to know we all managed these things and are ready to face the world.

Not looking forward to the new week?  Got that Monday morning feeling?  The day that so many really do not like.  Ooh, here we go again. Wonder what they’ve got in store to beat us with this time. Perhaps remembering that song by The Momma’s and The Poppa’s which starts something like – “Monday, Monday. Can’t stand that day. Monday morning, it always seems to turn out that way.”  Can we please just get through to Tuesday?

To some of us it’s a fresh start, a new challenge. At my age it’s almost “Hey, I’m still here. What are we up to this week, Lord?” Better look on the calendar to see where I should be, and what I’m doing. I do hope most of you, at least, are feeling the same.

Have you ever considered what Jesus might have been thinking on Monday, the day after Palm Sunday?  Perhaps along the lines of “Well, here we are, the Monday of the most challenging week of my life. This is what we have been working towards. I have just four days to pull everything together before Friday, and I’m not looking forward to what I have to do then. And I can’t tell anyone, they will want me to leave Jerusalem, and I can’t do that.”

I expect the disciples thought it was great being in the Holy City with the Master. They had no bad feelings about Monday did they?

How’s your Monday looking now? Not bad in comparison is it? So chin up, give a little smile, and greet the day. The Lord is with you and it will soon be Friday and for you that’s a good day.

Lord, thank you for our day of rest. Give us the strength and wisdom to see each new day as a bonus and a challenge, starting this Monday. Amen.
