[Friday's Devotional] - Omega

Omega is the last letter in the Greek alphabet. "Hooray", I hear you say, "it's been all Greek to me so far!"

Omega is not equivalent to our letter Z though, it is nearest to our short letter "o", as in God. So we have come full circle in a sense. We speak of going from alpha to omega in some circumstances, and sometimes think of omega as the end, the final piece of the jigsaw. And it is in a way. It is what we are all working toward without knowing where it is, or when we will arrive there, or even if it will come to us unexpectedly.

This week we have travelled through Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta – or A,B,C and D.

But A =B and B = C and C = A. So what does A + B + C equal? ABC or Omega?

We are charged with seeking God through Jesus using the Holy Spirit to create a delta as we travel toward Omega.

I'm sure it feels to you, as it does at times to me, that we are a bit of a Don Quixote tilting at windmills. So I offer you the final words from 'The Man of La Mancha' sung by Quixote on his deathbed....The Impossible Dream....

And the world will be better for this,

that one man, scorned and covered with scars,

should strive with his last ounce of courage,

to reach the unreachable star.

It is, isn't it?
