Thy will be done on earth as in heaven! I believed and acted on a verse I saw in the bible. I tested God - yes – with the only bible verse in Malachi where God challenges His people to test Him. God began by warning many of us who cry day and night for Him to act on our behalf. He says He will send a messenger of the covenant first to prepare the way and then suddenly the Lord Himself will come to bless us. Covenants are based on promises we make with one another. One of them relates to our finances and God sent His messenger Malachi to ask people who were praying for their material needs with the following admonition: "Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me." "But you ask, 'How are we robbing you?" "In tithes and offerings", God answered them and went on to say: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it...." Malachi 3: 8,10 [NIV] If you are in financial bondage today or simply want to have more money to bless others with - there is so much need out there - I may be the messenger sent to you with an invitation to test Him in this area. If this is false, you can judge yourself from my testimony- just like Legion was sent to go and tell the world what the Lord had done for him (Monday's Devotional). Despite having a lot of experience and recent training, I could not find a better job. Finally, after 6 months of interviews and many letters of rejection, I came to my senses and remembered that I had been honouring (testing) God with tithes and offerings for 5 years and yet, I was still living from hand to mouth. That night, I cried to the Lord and questioned Him about His covenant promises above. I was angry with Him and thought I was going to die that night. (I later on repented). Two weeks later, a job opportunity opened at the UK HQ of the charity I was working for back in 2002, in Zimbabwe. Long story short - here I am serving the Lord in a greater way than I would ever imagine! If you are to doubt God's promises (which is foolishness) at least, do not ever doubt the good ones like Malachi 3 vs 10. In heaven there are streets of gold and if we are used to robbing God's money here on earth do not be deceived to think that you will suddenly change when up there. Jesus taught us to pray "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" for a reason. Farai Mutsambiwa | |
