The Cross Before Me In October my devotionals referred to my dilemma at that time: "My life-long desire to earn a living playing with glitter and glue is unfolding beyond my wildest dreams and I was offered the perfect job to supplement it here in Surrey. But Chris and I share a combined dream, to serve aboard the Mercy Ship 'Africa Mercy' and, having now saved enough money to do so, we have submitted our application, initially for 3 months aboard. If accepted we could be called to 'Go' at any time. It's an exciting dilemma for us to have, but do I quit the great job that has been offered and will supplement my creative work for 6 months until we return nearer to family in the Midlands, or do we give up everything now and go? We don't have the answer, but God does, and he guides us all today exactly as he did with those in the Scriptures. When I write these devotionals again in January, I should be able to share what that answer was!" Well the answer came in the form of a song that I know well and on hearing it, was convicted in my heart of the right road to take. "I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. The world behind me, the cross before me………..No turning back, no turning back." The childhood dream of my own creative business is a worldlier road and I know, if it is God's will for my future, this will still come to fruition on my return. On the road someone asked if he could go along. "I'll go with you, wherever," he said. Jesus was curt: "Are you ready to rough it? We're not staying in the best inns, you know." Jesus said to another, "Follow me." He said, "Certainly, but first excuse me for a couple of days, please. I have to make arrangements for my father's funeral." Jesus refused. "First things first. Your business is life, not death. And life is urgent: Announce God's kingdom!" Then another said, "I'm ready to follow you, Master, but first excuse me while I get things straightened out at home." Jesus said, "No procrastination. No backward looks. You can't put God's kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day." Luke 9:57-62 [MSG] If you have time listen and meditate on the words and direction the Lord wants to speak into your life. Tomorrow we will look at the remarkable story behind the song "I have decided to follow Jesus." YouTube video [6 Mins] I have decided to follow Jesus Dawn Milward | |
