Think about Truth There is a very useful mnemonic that is recommended to help you think before you speak (or text, or comment on Facebook) which is THINK. I find it a useful check list before I open my mouth, I hope you will too. If you are wondering what a mnemonic is - this one is an excellent example. Each letter stands for: Is it: True? Helpful? Inspiring? Necessary? Kind? Gossip is a very harmful thing in a church – or anywhere for that matter. And the tongue can be used to curse as well as praise: With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. James 3: 9-10 [NIV] Unfortunately, good news can be sometimes less interesting than bad. That means that gossip, criticism and negativity can be more prevalent than uplifting and positive talk. Much humour relies on sarcasm and cynicism and the truth is sometimes a little boring without a little exaggeration to help things along. Let me encourage you to take care with loose talk – and think about whether what you are saying is actually true – and whether we ought to say it… Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
