[Thursday's Devotional] - The God of Humour

Do you remember moments you have longed for something or travel to a certain country or place for holiday?

Be warned God hears and works in mysterious ways.

Mine was a 5 minute flight and 30 minute business trip to a popular country, which I shall not mention, across the pond!

It so happened, sometime in April, I had this desire to travel overseas to see places and I didn’t see the answer coming!  A couple of weeks earlier I had received tax forms relating to some royalties received from a company based in the country across the pond. “What in the world am I going to do?” I said to myself. ”Who is going to help me complete these complicated tax forms? O Lord, please help!” I prayed.

My “overseas travel” came unexpectedly when my wife and I decided to catch a train to London for shopping and amongst other things to attend the first “Praise the Lord” shooting programme by TBN Europe in their newly built studios near Wembley.

In His humour, God gave me an idea to use the London trip as an opportunity for us to visit the Embassy that country and inquire about how to fill in the tax forms, charge free. Shortly before arrival at the embassy, a heavy downpour of rain fell upon us. For me, this was a harbinger of something good.

As it transpired, I went through a meticulous airport type security check up – passport in hand, belt and shoes off and metals in a plastic tub ready for screening. Soon, I safely “landed” on foreign soil and within 30 minutes I had received top class, friendly service.

As forewarned by the heavy rain down pour, Jo and I thoroughly enjoyed the great service at the Embassy, our shopping, and the TBN Praise the Lord programme that afternoon.

At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem.  David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!”  So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord.  “God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?”  Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.
