[Monday's Devotional] - Matured slowly

God has no graduates in his university.  The process of learning and shaping is continuous.   [Jeff Lucas]

Someone who has just become a Christian might think that their conversion is the end point in a long process.  But those who have been Christians for some time know that the journey is not over: it’s only just begun!

This week we shall be looking at Christian maturity, basing our thoughts on Peter’s second letter [2 Peter 1: 5 – 11].  What do we mean by maturity?  Why is maturity important?  And how can we become mature in Christ?

Peter encourages us to live for maturity.  He wants his readers to be effective and productive Christians (v8); and we have the means to become mature because we participate in the divine nature (v4) having received the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Christ.  So, he tells us, make every effort to add to your faith. (v5)

So what’s to stop us growing? The Lord wants us to come to maturity and he has given us his Spirit to facilitate the process.  Over the next four days we will see what that entails.

And we pray... in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.  [Colossians 1: 10]

Lord, please help me to see why I need to grow as a Christian.
