21st Century Man When I look at the world around me I can see some dramatic shortcomings in the men of the 21st Century. What is wrong with men today? How can we aspire to be more like the godly men of the Bible? The world today is somewhat different from Bible times. Women now make up almost half of the workforce and traditional gender-specific roles are changing radically. The liberation and empowerment of women has led them to pick up some of the less attractive attributes of masculinity (ruthlessness, "workaholism" etc.). Women have become stronger, in many ways seeking equality with men (good or bad) and undoubtedly men have become weaker. Family life is seriously damaged as a result of contemporary lifestyles. Modern man has all the same failings as ancient man, and perhaps a few new ones! But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 [NIV] This week we will look at a few of the characteristics of modern men and compare them with the character of David, one of the greatest men in the Bible.
