Blessed are the pure in heart, they will see God. Matthew 5:8 [NIV]
If your heart is full of sin and conflict you will find it hard to see God. In order to see clearly we need to remove the "logs" from our eyes. This doesn't mean we need to be sinless – just up to date with our daily confessions, and practicing the humility we observed yesterday.
We also need to resolve the conflicts in our relationships with our brothers and sisters, before we can see clearly in the light of God's illumination:
But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them. 1 John 2:11 [NIV]
You can't love God and hate others. You can't be reconciled to God and not be reconciled with others. Is there someone you are in conflict with today? Take the first step towards putting things right before this day is over. As we share the peace with others around is in our Sunday service, so today you can share the peace with someone you find it hard to love – and see how it can break down the barriers and enhance your walk with God.
Lord, I want to have a clean heart. Give me the courage and the humility to take the first step to put things right with my relationships – with others, and with you. Amen.
Memory Verse: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22 [NIV]
