The second half of the memory verse for this week is about action – "Do what it says"! What we do, and how we behave, is a visible sign of what we believe. What is the purpose of learning a foreign language if you never take the opportunity to speak it? It is by putting words into action that we really show what it means to believe and understand the Word of God.
Teach me, Lord, the meaning of your laws, and I will obey them at all times.
Explain your law to me, and I will obey it; I will keep it with all my heart.
Psalm 119: 33-34 [GNT]
Obeying the Word of God starts in the mind – what we believe (what is in our hearts and minds) determines how we act. If we want to change our actions, we need to change what we believe. If our beliefs are determined by the Word, the actions should follow. Are you putting into action the things you have read in the Bible this week?
Lord, make me a doer of your Word, not only a reader of your Word. Give me the resolve to make your words my actions, in Jesus name. Amen.
Memory Verse: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22 [NIV]
