Jesus: My Rock of Escape Samuel gives the following account of how David narrowly escaped death at the hands of King Saul. "Meanwhile, David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon, in the desert south of Jeshimon. Saul and his men arrived and began their search. When David heard of it, he went south to Rock Mountain, camping out in the wilderness of Maon. Saul heard where he was and set off for the wilderness of Maon in pursuit. Saul was on one side of the mountain, David and his men on the other. David was in full retreat, running, with Saul and his men closing in, about to get him. Just then a messenger came to Saul and said, "Hurry! Come back! The Philistines have just attacked the country! So Saul called off his pursuit of David and went back to deal with the Philistines. That's how that place got the name Narrow Escape (Other versions say Rock of Escape). David left there and camped out in the caves and canyons of En Gedi." 1 Samuel 23: 24-29 [MSG] This reminds me of my own narrow escape years ago. I once drafted a letter to hand in to my Director after disappointment with my manager. For two years, I was being discriminated against - the only one in my department not allowed to use a company car despite my entitlement. After much prayer and anguish of the soul that night, I went to the Director's office first thing in the morning to explain my decision to leave and then tender my letter of resignation. The moment I got into the office and after exchanging pleasantries, my Director looked at me and said "I have sad news for you and colleagues - your boss is leaving. Did you know that? She gave me her letter of resignation yesterday after accepting a senior job offer with the United Nations". I was stunned and speechless at what I had just heard. My Director thought I was shocked because she was leaving but I was amazed at how God had just intervened in my situation to save me from leaving the job I loved. Wisely, I changed subject and talked about other business. I now know, that was God's perfect plan for me because 8 years later, the Lord used that job to bring me and my family to the UK. "I know that You can do all things, And that no thought or purpose of Yours can be restrained." Job 42:2 [AMP] Today, why not think of the many times God has given you a narrow escape and give Him praise? Farai Mutsambiwa | |
