[Friday's Devotional] - The Power of Prophecy

The Power of prophecy

Samuel prophesied to David that he would become a king. But when he went to the back of the desert looking after his father's sheep David must have wondered when and how this was going to happen. He could have laughed like Sarah did when the Lord announced that she was going to bear a child the following year, when she herself was very old. You probably have been thinking the same after receiving a word of prophecy from the Lord. You need not worry. King David's life can shed some light as to how things will work out.

Because of the spoken word, David the shepherd boy soon found himself called to Saul's palace to serve the king as an armor bearer. God will send some people looking for you.

As David went back and forth from Saul to look after his father's sheep, one day he was sent by his father to take some food supplies to his brothers at the battle front and soon he met Goliath the giant that God used to elevate him. A spoken word will cause the supernatural to happen.

The same spoken word led David to become a fugitive running away from Saul for many years because women had composed and sang the song "Saul has slain his thousands and David his tens of thousands". Saul had become jealous of the anointing on David which began when Samuel prophesied that he would become king. You may go through seasons you will never understand what is going on, when the word of prophecy has been spoken about you.

After Saul was killed in battle, David was invited by the people of Judah to become their king. Later the entire household of Israel asked David to become their king thereby fulfilling the word of prophecy by Samuel. For David it was like moving from the getto to the White House!

What words of prophecy have been spoken to you by godly people? Do you believe in those words? What words of prophecy do you often speak to family, friends and colleagues?

Why not start a new generation of blessed people by speaking the following words to your loved ones, everyday:

"The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace."'
Numbers 6: 24 – 26 [NIV]

If you do this, the Lord promises you "will put my name on the Israelites (your loved ones), and I will bless them" (vs 27) [NIV]. It will be interesting to monitor how God will bless them.
