[Friday's Devotional] - Fruit

Fruit

This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John15:8 [NIV]

… the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control… Galatians 5:22-23 [NIV]

Is this your picture of life, God the father training, pruning, guiding, trusting in the words of Jesus and abiding in him through the Holy Spirit, bearing the fruit of  a life of love, joy, peace…

This is the picture of discipleship that Jesus is offering us through the Vine.  A  Spirit filled, fruitful life, demonstrating a skilled gardener is at work.

Francis Schaffer says in his book 'The Great Evangelical Disaster':
'the final apologetic which Jesus gives is the observable love of true Christians for true Christians'.

Love is therefore the greatest means of evangelism. Why?  Because this shows the gardener at work - the glory of God.

May the Father, train and guide us,
May we abide in Jesus his Son,
May the Holy Spirit flow through us, sustaining life that bears fruit
