[Thursday's Devotional] - Psalm 121: Help comes from the LORD

Psalm 121: Help comes from the LORD

Ever had a difficult decision to make? Work, home, personal relationships?

Where do you turn to for advice? Friends, family, co-workers?
All are good examples of those who can help.

However, how often do I consult God?  Yesterday I showed in Psalm 23 that God is always there, that God walks with me, so it would be odd if God does not talk to me, especially if I ask for help.

In the first two verses of psalm 121:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord

the Maker of heaven and earth
Psalm 121: 1-2 [NIV]

In every sense, God is there to help.  Imagine walking along a beach with your best friend, and you have some really important life decision to make.  Would you do that whole walk without talking about your life problem with your friend, would you spend the whole walk talking about the best football team in the world (obviously Tottenham Hotspur)?

No, whatever the merits of Tottenham Hotspur (and there are many) it would be odd to spend all that time with a good friend and not hear his or her counsel!

Why should it be any different with God?  It's difficult to ask for help, but if we truly believe, and we do indeed lift our eyes up. God is true, God is faithful and help will come from the Lord!!
