Rising from the Rubble Our focus this week has been on Coventry Cathedral, its story and its ministry. We have thought about origins, theology, prayer and action. Today we will conclude with a particular story that has been a real encouragement to me and many others. Use this story as the basis for giving gratitude to God for the Cathedral and its life. Many reading this will have visited the Cathedral at some time over the years. Have you tried to get a good coffee or meal there? Could you actually find the Cathedral café? Well, the café might still be a bit difficult to find, but if you do you will experience a quality of food and drink unparalleled in Coventry! The RISING FROM THE RUBBLE café is number one on TripAdvisor for places to eat in Coventry…out of over 400 listed. OK, this sounds like advertising, but there is more to it than that. It illustrates a side of the Cathedral often unrecognised. The RISING CAFÉ was opened at Easter 2015, the result of a partnership between the Cathedral, the Bishop's Mission Fund, Together for Change Coventry and Warwickshire [a Joint Venture between the Diocese and the Church Urban Fund] and BETEL of BRITAIN. The Café is a social enterprise run by Betel, a Christian charity, which supports and enables the rehabilitation of adults with life controlling issues, such as alcohol and drug addiction. After nearly two years there is much to trigger thankfulness. The service is great, lives are valued and changed, a good, local facility is in place and there is a buzz! Translate your thankfulness into a visit if you've not yet been! See http://www.risingcafe.co.uk/coventry At the end of this week ponder on the continuing story of Coventry Cathedral. It's our Cathedral. How might it be more than the place where ordinations take place? What do we have to learn about forgiveness and reconciliation… in the church, local neighbourhoods, our politics and wider society? I would suggest there is much that God wants to teach us in 2017.
