[Tuesday's Devotional] -  The long and unwinding road!

The long and unwinding road!

This picture was taken in what felt like 100 degree heat on a near cloudless day.  The picture, like most of them does not do the scene justice.  The skies are so big and the emptiness is immense.  The farm on the right hand side was the first building we had seen for about 30 miles and the road had not changed its course for over 80 miles and it continued to stretch into the horizon.

It felt like we would never get to where we were heading. Travelling at over 70mph we were covering some distance but the nothingness of this particular part of the journey in Wyoming was just so monotonous.

How often does our own journey seem like nothing is happening, just the wheels going round as we plod on with life?

I'm constantly finding myself in this position.  The temptation to go "off-road" because it always seems a little more adventurous there.

But this thing I do know.  God has given me my road to travel.  He knows all the stops, the turns, the up hills and the free-wheeling downs.  He knows I can handle everything on this road because he wouldn't put anything on it to harm me.  And if I stray for any reason and decide to go off track, he is always there, back on the road showing me the way he wants me to go.
