[Friday's Devotional] - Prayer and God's glory

Prayer and God's glory

In John 9 is given this account:

As he was walking along, he saw a man blind from birth.
"Master," his disciples asked him, "why was this man born blind? Was it a result of his own sins or those of his parents?"
"Neither," Jesus answered. "But to demonstrate the power of God.  All of us must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent me, for there is little time left before the night falls and all work comes to an end.  But while I am still here in the world, I give it my light."
Then he spat on the ground and made mud from the spittle and smoothed the mud over the blind man's eyes, and told him, "Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam" (the word Siloam means "Sent").  So the man went where he was sent and washed and came back seeing!
John 9: 1-7 [TLB]

Whether we have sinned or not, the devil will always accuse us of doing something wrong to the point that we won't even have the faith to receive forgiveness and our salvation.  Yet, the bible assures us that when we confess and repent from our sins, God forgives us and cleanses us of all unrighteousness.

In the story above, the blind person was just minding his own business on the day of encounter with Jesus.  We are not told he had been praying.  Maybe he had completely lost his faith because he had been born blind.  However, Jesus made it clear that the purpose of his blindness was to bring glory to God (through demonstration of His power to heal the man).

Many of you will know of the skin condition I have struggled with for a long time.  At the pinnacle of my troubles (when the condition almost half eclipsed my face!), I switched on my faith to the fact that God had allowed a visible problem which all people could see, so that His Name could be glorified!

Reading the story of the blind man enabled me to shake off Satan's accusations and believe that if I am righteous, then Jesus would somehow find and heal me whether or not my faith was strong or weak.

All the glory to Him for healing my face, as I continued to pray!
