[Friday's Devotional] - The Power of Love

If there was ever a song to make me sit up, think about God and what he does for us and yes, make me weep with pain at all the wrong I’ve done and weep for joy at how he loves me.  This song is it.

I was given this single (for those under the age of 30, small plastic 7 inch (for those under 40, system of measurement) vinyl disc that when applied to a turntable would make music) by my first girlfriend and I’ve loved it ever since.  Traditionally associated with Christmas, I think it should be adopted by Church worship leaders as a Hymn for all seasons, but then I’m biased on this.

Listen to it here: YouTube “The Power of Love” [5 mins]

Jesus said:

“My command is this: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." John 15:12-14 [NIV]

The power of love is so strong in this world. It conquers all.

In the song it talks about being protected when the chips are down with “My undying, death-defying love for you”.  Look at the passage above and I think these two lines (one from scripture, the other from popular culture nearly 2000 years later) say exactly the same thing.

I will die for you, that death with be meaningless because I will conquer death so you never have to face death yourself, and all I ask in return is that you love one another as I have loved you!

That is the Power of Love………a Force from above, feeding my soul!

Lord Jesus, thank you for dying for me, thank you for conquering death and rising again so I can have eternal life with you.
