5 I Have Not Stopped Giving Thanks for You How wonderful it is when people become Christians! It is new life, just like the birth of a baby, and something to rejoice in. Paul writes to the Ephesians: I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Ephesians 1: 16, [NIV] But thanks is only a part of what Paul prays. He goes on to pray that they might know God better (verse 17), the hope to which they have been called (verse 18) and God's power (verse 19). Is there someone you know for whom you can give thanks or pray these things? These are things that we could all do with. To live the Christian life is to grow in the grace, and the knowledge of Christ. As in any relationship, we need time to get to know God and the riches of his love for us. How far up your agenda is the need to get to know God better? "Every time I think I have grasped him I discover something more that astounds me." [Stuart Blanch, former Archbishop of York] Dear Father, thank you for choosing me to be your child. Help me, today and every day, to draw close to you and know you better. Amen. David Long | |
