A Tree and its Fruit Jesus taught many things about the kingdom using everyday examples. In Luke Chapter 6 He said: "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of". Luke 6: 43-45 [NIV] This is pretty straightforward. Jesus is talking about the state of the human heart. What is truly contained in our hearts is revealed when we speak and what our hearts are full of is what we constantly feed them on. Like our physical bodies that need food everyday, do we have sufficient time to feed our hearts on God's word, daily? What is it that we expose our hearts, minds, ears, eyes to, daily? Jesus is pleased when we spend most of our time meditating on: "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things" Philippians 4:8 [NIV] Farai Mutsambiwa | |
