A New Purpose Throughout Lent most of the Connect Groups at m2o will be working through the Prison Hope book, '40 Stories of Hope' (see more here http://www.prisonhope.org.uk/resources/). This collection of 40 testimonies of hope from prisoners, ex-offenders and prison chaplains has been put together for use during Lent. For every book bought a free copy will be given to a prisoner. Each day there's a story to read and there are weekly Bible studies to go alongside. These devotionals will give you a flavour of what's to come over Lent for those of you who have the book, and it's not too late to buy a copy! Jesus calls his first disciples As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will send you out to fish for people.' At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. Mark 1:16-20 [NIV] One of the stories shared is that of Mary Kay, one of the most notorious criminals in the US. She encountered God in prison and turned her life around and subsequently began the Angel Tree project (a Prison Fellowship programme which has provided over ten million children with a Christmas present from their parent in prison). Jesus called ordinary people to follow him and still does today. Today think about Jesus' simple invitation 'Come and follow me'.
