[Tuesday's Devotional] - Ask and it will be given to you

[The Israelites] asked, and He brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven
Psalm 105:40 [AMP]

I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites; speak to them, saying, At twilight you shall eat meat, and between the two evenings you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God. In the evening quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp. And when the dew had gone, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a fine, round and flakelike thing, as fine as hoarfrost on the ground. When the Israelites saw it, they said one to another, Manna [What is it?]. For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. Exodus 16:12-15 [AMP]

One of the joys we have as Christians is to be able to ask of God and to receive anything we need, provided we are asking according to His will and plan i.e. whatever promise we see in the bible.

When I go to work and am running late, it is a pleasure to ask for traffic lights to be green throughout - and also not to have a tractor in front of me, and these prayers have been honoured.

Today (the day I am writing this devotional) I have just returned from holiday overseas. Although it is not something I have prayed for specifically, I know this is something in response to my prayers for God to bless me.  How do I know?  Just like the Israelites were blessed beyond expectation and wondered “what is it?”, God blessed my family with a holiday beyond our imagination.  I had never seen a whale in my life and I never dreamt I would ever set my foot on that beautiful island.  Everything from the hotel to the boat ride was superb, for He has already said elsewhere, He will give us exceedingly abundantly and above all we ask for.

If you have a need, do not murmur. Rather, take it to the Lord in prayer remembering His word in Matthew 6 vs 33: But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides”.  I am not the one who planned the holiday but God used a friend and, although I didn’t have a £10,000 budget to spend, we were all “satisfied”.

And, as if this wasn’t enough, every day God spoke with me through nature including the high cliffs I saw from the boat.  I also didn’t know He loves to see me taking time to rest and enjoying His “goodness in the land of the living!” Psalm 27 vs 13
